Wild Stars Comics Giveaway! [Aug 23 – 30th]

With Wild Stars V: The Artomique Paradigm coming to a close next month in the Fall issue of Cirsova Magazine, we’re thrilled to be able to run this promotion in concert with Michael Tierney!

We’re giving away a complete set of the 2000s Wild Stars Comics! We’re also giving away a rare copy of the Across the Distance Wild Stars Art Portfolio.

In the 1970s, Michael Tierney wrote a series of novels that formed the Wild Stars universe: Wild Stars Rising in 1976 (a different novel from Wild Stars 4: Wild Star Rising), Moonshadow in 1977/78, and First Marker in 1978 (later adapted into the graphic novel Wild Stars 1: The Book of Circles), which were the first uses of the trademarked term of Wild Stars.    In 1978, Michael released a portfolio illustrating scenes from these novels and his then-recently released magazine, The Multiversal Scribe . Each print was individually signed with matching numbers, with three plates illustrated by Michael Tierney and three plates illustrated by Bruce Conklin.

One of Bruce’s plates featured the first appearance of Phaedra.
One of Michael plates featured the first appearance of Eagal Ir Radin.
While Phaedra has since appeared in the comics and novels, Eagal Ir Radin will make his first series appearance in 2022 when Cirsova Magazine begins serialization of Wild Stars 6: Orphan of the Shadowy Moons (originally the 1977/78 Moonshadow novel).

The Cosmic Courtship is Out the Door!

We just received confirmation from Michael that all of the boxes for domestic orders are now dropped off at the post office!

And last night, I finished entering all of the international orders with our printer. These will be fulfilling from their UK facilities, so they should be arriving most places much quicker than if we had them printed and fulfilled in the US.

Some people have already received their copies and been sharing pictures on social media; thank you so much for all the love you have shown this project!

We hope you enjoy this thrilling story as much as we did, because we’ve got some very exciting Julian Hawthorne-related news on horizon…. but in the meantime:

Michael Tierney’s Robert E. Howard Art Chronology

Wild Stars author and pulp historian Michael Tierney, who worked tirelessly to get all of the shipping labels printed and took your boxes to the post office, has a fabulous new project launching soon through Chenault & Gray Publishing.

A couple years back, he put together an astounding 4-volume history of the art and illustration of the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, The Edgar Rice Burroughs 100-Year Art Chronology.

This year, he’s teaming up with Chenault & Gray again to put together a monster art history of the art and illustration of the works of Robert E. Howard.

Working with Michael on The Cosmic Courtship over the last several months, I’ve had the opportunity to see some of the research material that will be going into this, and let me tell you: it’s going to blow you away!

You can sign up for notification here.

Jim Breyfogle’s The Paths of Cormanor

We’re about a week in to our crowdfund for Jim Breyfogle’s The Paths of Cormanor.

This beautiful novel takes several unique twists on the legend of the Swan Princess, mixing in elements of eastern European fairytales and Scandinavian mythology.

People who have had a chance to read and review it have compared its magic and charm to Jack Vance’s Lyonesse but with the action of an Edgar Rice Burroughs adventure.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic tale from the author of Cirsova’s ongoing Mongoose and Meerkat series!

Cirsova to Serialize Wild Stars 6: Orphan of the Shadowy Moons in 2022

Cirsova Publishing has just acquired the serial rights to Michael Tierney’s Wild Stars 6: Orphan of the Shadowy Moons!

We will be serializing this story in 4 parts throughout 2022.

The origins of the Ancient Warrior will finally be revealed, as will the mystery of his obsession with Phaedra! Be looking forward to swashbuckling adventure and Jet-Ski Barbarians in this classic 70s Sword & Planet adventure that will be seeing the light of day for the first time next year!

Get caught up on the classic Wild Stars adventures all in one go with the Wild Stars Omnibus, and be sure to read Wild Stars 5: The Artomique Paradigm being serialized now in Cirsova! [Part 1 of 3 | Part 2 of 3].

Don’t forget! Cirsova’s reading period for 2022 will begin August 1st and run through August 7th.

Critical Blast Interview with Michael Tierney, The Local Comic Shop Guys, and Wild Stars Art From DarkFilly

Friday night, Michael Tierney and I were on with R.J. Carter of Critical Blast talking about the new issue of Cirsova and The Artomique Paradigm.

Saturday, Michael also appeared on the regular Critical Blast feature round-table of comic shop owners.

Here’s a piece of the Red Queen of the Space Pirates of Corsairiana with Achilles Hister the Elder of the Artomiques by Dark Filly.

Be sure to back our kickstarter for our 5th Anniversary Issue!

Cirsova 5th Anniversary Highlight: The Artomique Paradigm

One of the showcase items of 2021 will be Michael Tierney’s newest Wild Stars novel, The Artomique Paradigm.

What are the Wild Stars?

Aeons ago, Earth was nearly destroyed by an alien invasion. Refugees were led to the stars by a powerful immortal being from another universe, known only as the Ancient Warrior. These refugees became the Wild Stars. From time to time, they have revisited Earth, checking on humanity’s progress.

Now, after two centuries of modern man exploring and colonizing the stars, humanity’s Wild Stars cousins have re-established relations with Earth and her colonies.

Who are the Artomique?

The Artomique are refugees from a now-destroyed timeline where fascist Germany had nearly conquered the world.

They are led by Achilles Hister, the son that timeline’s equivalent of Adolf Hitler, and have worked in the shadows to attempt to restore their timeline. Failing that, they have worked to establish a new Artomique supremacy using stolen Wild Star technology and become one of the dominant political factions on Earth.

A Very Brief Outline of the Wild Stars

  • Exodus from Earth following the Marzaanti invasion. (Wild Stars IV: Wild Star Rising)
  • Erlik, son of the Ancient Warrior, wins the Icarus stone (and with it custodianship of Earth) from Carthage. Carthage allies with the wolf-like Brothan and Artomique to wage war against earth. (Wild Stars: Book of Circles)
  • While the Brothan have lost the war, Carthage exacts revenge on Erlik’s family, leading them on a wild goose chase through time. The Artomique begin a secret arms race using stolen Wild Stars technology. Hyper-intelligent dinosaurs get their hands on a Marzaanti space probe which accelerates their evolution. (Wild Stars II: Force Majeure)
  • Terraformers begin discovering evidence of Wild Stars presence on worlds thought to have been uninhabited. Space pirates have orchestrated a large-scale mind-control coup against humanity. Extra-dimensional monsters are unleashed in a tear in the fabric of the universe. (Wild Stars III: Time Warmageddon)
  • The Ancient Warrior returns, having laid the foundations of an aeons-long plan to rescue Phaedra from the prison of the God-Father and his knights in the heart of a super-massive black hole. (Wild Stars IV: Wild Star Rising)
  • The Wild Stars have revealed themselves and are prepared to reunite humanity among the stars, except the Artomique have been developing new weapons in secret while their leaders have achieved a sort of immortality using stolen Wild Stars cloning technology. (Wild Stars V: The Artomique Paradigm)

Great Review of Wild Stars and the Wild Stars 5e Supplement

Swords & Stitchery just posted a really glowing review of Michael Tierney’s Wild Stars, as well the RPG Setting Supplement recently published by Troll Lord Games.

Since we’re going to be serializing The Artomique Paradigm next year, now would be the best time to get caught up on all of the Wild Stars goodness!

We recommend having at least read the Wild Stars comics collected in Book of Circles, since that first introduces and chronicles the Artomique’s initial invasion of our timeline following the destruction of their own. But if you like kitchen-sink pulp science fiction adventure in the vein of Gardner F. Fox with a healthy injection of Burroughs, you’ll definitely want to pick up the Wild Stars 35th Anniversary Omnibus in hardcover! This tome collects all of the Wild Stars comics, two novels [Force Majeure and Wild Star Rising], the novella [Time Warmageddon], several short stories, AND includes a comprehensive encyclopedia of the Wild Stars universe.

Right now, get 15% off the hardcover with promo code THANKS15

Thinking Critical Interview with Michael Tierney

Michael was on with Wes of Thinking Critical to talk about the closure of his retail fronts and the state the comic industry.

He also confirms that he IS working on the next installments of Wild Stars, which we are planning on serializing next year alongside Paul O’Connor’s Badaxe comic, Jim Breyfogle’s Mongoose & Meerkat, and more!

Now is as good a time as any to support Michael in his transition to being a full-time writer! Catch up on ALL of the Wild Stars in one go in the 35th Anniversary Omnibus or read the Individual Volumes.

Central Arkansas Comic Stores Closing Their Doors

It’s with a heavy heart today that I picked up my consignment copies of Cirsova from The Comic Book Store on Treasure Hill Road in Little Rock.

After nearly 40 years, Michael Tierney is closing his shops.

He’s sold his Collectors Edition property on JFK in North Little Rock, the lease is up on The Comic Book Store at the end of this month, and he’s found a buyer for all of his inventory.

While this is very sad for his many loyal customers, in many regards it’s a blessing for Michael who is moving into a highly active retirement. He’ll still be fulfilling comic mail orders for subscribers, engaging in his duties as a city councilman, and working very diligently on his writing. If all goes according to plan, he should have a new Wild Stars novel read for next year among myriad other projects.

If you’re in Central Arkansas, now is the time to swing by his shops before it’s too late.

If you’re not in Central Arkansas but want to support Michael, now would be a great time to check out his Wild Stars series published through Cirsova.

For more information about Michael’s stores, the future of his pullbox customers, the Wild Stars, and more, visit http://thewildstars.com/.

I’ll be at Saline County Comic Expo in Benton, AR over the weekend and will have a handful of Wild Stars stuff with me, including the 1st editions of Wild Stars III. If you stop by and pick some up, be sure to swing by The Comic Book Store on Saturday afternoon, and Michael will sign them for you for free!

Mongoose & Meerkat Art Arrives Safe & Sound + Comic Retailer Round-table w/Michael Tierney

The original illustrations by DarkFilly for Jim Breyfogle’s Mongoose and Meerkat arrived Saturday.

On one hand, sorry for the lousy focus–my tablet is a potato. On the other hand, for those of you who haven’t read the stories, this gives you an idea of the art style without too many spoilers.

We have three days to go for this Kickstarter, and you can still get your hands on one of these original pieces of artwork.

Also last week, Cirsova author, Wild Stars creator, and LCS owner Michael Tierney appeared on a round-table discussion with, among others, notable online comic shop personality Comic Perch and renowned comic-creator Mike Baron.

They discuss the impact of the comic industry shutdown plus DC’s efforts to do an end-run around Diamond to ensure that the comic shops are getting SOME product.

Michael’s central Arkansas stores have been weathering the storm as well as could be expected; he’s managed to stay open for an entire month with no new product, but as you might imagine, it has been lean times in Little Rock.

Now would be a fantastic time to pick up a Wild Stars from him, particularly since you can get the Wild Stars 35th Anniversary Omnibus cheaper from him than from us, due to some issues with Lulu’s platform migration.

As usual, Michael has a dozen irons in the fire, including his Beyond the Farthest Star web strip and several others we can’t talk about, but we hope to have some new Wild Stars news in the near future. In the meantime, it sounds like Troll Lord Games is gearing up to start printing the Wild Stars RPG–no release date yet, but we’re guessing “soon”.
